Message from the Trustees
Due to unforeseen circumstances we can no longer produce A Chorus Line this year.
However, this situation has offered us a really exciting opportunity to licence a musical which plays to the strengths of our auditionees – and produce a show which shows off what you can do best. What we have looked at are shows that are ensemble driven, that give you the opportunity to play fun, engaging characters and multi-role – to stretch and challenge your performance skills. What we also want, is a show with a very cool musical score.
Equality Diversity and Inclusion are important factors for SYPT as the charity has always been set up with a view to offer opportunities to all students, regardless of their circumstances. The show we have selected has been written with that in mind, where the writers specifically say they want the show to be cast, looking beyond the boundaries of gender, race and physical ability – which we absolutely love – and offers you the opportunity to play roles which ordinarily, you may not have been able to play.
So, with all that in mind – we are very excited to announce that the show this year will be – The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical.
Audition applications are extended until 30th June, Apply NOW
The Lightning Thief – As the half-blood son of a Greek god, Percy Jackson has newly-discovered powers he can’t control, a destiny he doesn’t want, and a mythology textbook’s worth of monsters on his trail. When Zeus’s master lightning bolt is stolen and Percy becomes the prime suspect, he has to find and return the bolt to prove his innocence and prevent a war between the gods. But to succeed on his quest, Percy will have to do more than catch the thief. He must travel to the Underworld and back; solve the riddle of the Oracle, which warns him of betrayal by a friend; and come to terms with the father who abandoned him. Adapted from the best-selling book The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan and featuring a thrilling original rock score, The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical is an action-packed mythical adventure.
