Welcome to Suffolk Young People’s Theatre or SYPT as we are more commonly known!
Suffolk Young people’s Theatre was formed in 1979 by the Late Ray Dyer MBE together with his wife Daphne Dyer. The Dyer family connection continues with their daughter Laura Dyer MBE who has become our Honouree President.
We are a registered charity and not for profit amateur youth group that runs an annual three week summer school in late July early August each year culminating in a run of performances in the theatre.
We believe that theatre by young people should aspire to the highest standards in terms of both process and product and we strive to develop and improve our work each year. We challenge young performers from 14 to 21 to stage a full Musical production in just two weeks of intensive rehearsal.
Suffolk Young People’s Theatre is open to all in this age group and members are selected annually through an audition process. We aim to engage successful applicants in a high quality, challenging and meaningful theatre experience.
We currently rehearse at West Suffolk College using the superb purpose built Conservatoire EAST facilities.
